The Kagu (or Cagou - Rhynochetos jubatus) , from New Caledonia, is a cute bird that likes to walk mostly and rarely flies. They are endangered because of invasive species like dogs and cats... and because back int he days, ladies liked to wear hats with pretty feathers from their crest.
Kagus are considered very important in New Caledonia. Its distinctive song used to be played to the nation every night as the island's TV station signed off the air. Its survival is considered important for the nation's economy and image.
