Description
The California Condor was at some point so endangered that there were only 22 of them left in the world but with the help of biologists and breeding them in captivity, their numbers are now somewhere around 500. Still on the endangered list, but better then zero. I had a lot of fun drawing those elegant feathers around its neck, and I found out that they can pull their feathers up, so they basically cover their bald heads just like pulling a hoodie on. Their highest threat is the lead from the bullets left in other animals, like a deer shot by a hunter. The condor will eat the meat and inadvertently ingest small pieces from the broken up bullet. Because they are scavengers, they also ingest a lot of "microtrash", like bottlecaps, screws, buttons...
This is where you can see how we the humans affect all the creatures around us through the by-products of our so-called "civilization". Let's do better!
