Giant Pandas (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) are native to South Central China. They're considered a vulnerable species due to habitat loss (climate change, human expansion); the good news is that their numbers are on the rise, due to conservation efforts.

This bear is called Giant Panda because there is another panda, also really cute: the Red Panda. Giant Pandas are now considered a "living fossil" because they are a basal member of the Ursidae family (the bears) that appeared 19 million years ago.
